Another problem will arise with the default configuration. If the site contains multiple Client Access servers, Outlook does not automatically load-balance its connections among the available hosts. Remember that Outlook receives a list of SCP records from Active Directory and will attempt to connect in the order it was received. When Active Directory generates the list, it orders the hosts by creation date of the SCP record (created during the Client Access server installation). The combination of these two operations means the one Client Access server (the oldest Client Access server) will handle all of the AutoDiscover traffic in that site. Additionally, the service URLs returned by the Client Access server are not equally load-balanced either. They are randomly chosen from all the Client Access servers within the mailbox server site. The solution is to change the SCP record to provide a load balanced URL for AutoDiscover. To enable this, use the set-ClientAccessServer cmdlet with the AutoDiscoverServiceInternalUri property. Of course, this means you will need a load-balancing mechanism, such as Windows Network Load Balancing (NLB), round robin DNS, or a hardware load balancer. This load-balanced name is another example of a namespace that you need to consider and plan for. install Exchange Server 2010 into an existing active Directory site that already contains Exchange Server 2007 servers.
